Eyes To See

Why did the Nasca people (200 BCE-500 CE) draw immense shapes and figures on the plain and mountains in Peru? No one knows. These “drawings” are only visible from the air. As planes swoop down close to the land the figures come into view, but if one doesn’t know what to look for, one might never see them.

My prayer response:

God Who Sees All, My vision is limited by so many things–what I know, what I am looking for, what I think might be there. Help me to look with an open mind. Help me to continue to develop my ability to see.

Biblical touchstones:

  • Then God opened Hagar’s eyes and she saw a well of water. Genesis 21:19
  • I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13
  • Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, ‘Friend, let me take out the speck in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye. Luke 6:41-42

Invitation to prayer:
What prayers are emerging from your heart, mind, and body?
Pray them now.
