Sometimes the wind blows–hard. “Bend, but don’t break,” the words on our family crest remind me that responding to external forces with strength, flexibility, and balance is helpful.
My prayer
O Spirit that moves like the wind, when Your Unseen Presence directs me, may I, like a dancing partner, be responsive to Your leading.
Biblical touchstones
- In the beginning…the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
- Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden that its fragrance may be wafted abroad. Song of Songs 4:16
- The wind blows to the south, and goes around to the north; round and round goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. Ecclesiastes 1:6
Invitation to prayer
With your body or your imagination move as if you were a tall stalk of pampas grass being blown by a strong wind. Feel yourself responding without becoming unbalanced. Enjoy the experience. As you bend and sway, what prayers are emerging in your heart, mind, body and imagination? Pray them now.
