Beautiful vestiges of the past call me to accept decay and death as a vital part of life.
My prayer
Eternal One, For the vital beauty that existed, I give thanks. As I experience it vanishing, help me to grieve its loss without missing the beauty that is still present.
Biblical touchstones
- Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away from grief, my soul and body also. Psalm 31:9
- Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there; the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21
- For the fate of humans and the fate of animals is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. Ecclesiastes 3:19
