Matthew the Gospel Writer: The West Rose Window At Chartes (3)

Having one’s closest friends nearby is important. It is not surprising to find the four gospel writers in the closest circles to Christ. Matthew, depicted as an angel, holding his gospel fills the bottom circle. Seeing his proximity to the Risen Christ makes me wonder, how am I expressing my friendship with God?

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9 (NRSV)
