Churning

Caught in an agitating situation, I can forget that swirling is one of nature’s tools for cleansing.

My prayer

Thank You for life–even when its strong, seething force feels like too much.

Biblical touchstones

  • My eyes are spent with weeping; my stomach churns… Lamentations 2:11
  • Then God answered Job out of the whirlwind… Job 38:1
  • I [God] placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail, though they roar, they cannot pass over it. Jeremiah 5:22

Invitation to prayer

Get in touch with a situation that is swirling through your thoughts and life. Feel its challenge in your mind, emotions, and body. Now, imagine God right in the middle of all that is churning. Picture God there, or if it is more helpful, feel God’s presence there. What prayers are emerging in your heart, mind, body and imagination? Pray them now.

  • What a wonderful image of the labyrinth’s power and force. God there in the center of the swirl. Makes me also think of the waves on the sea of Galilee like circuits that surround the calm center where Christ is resting. Thanks, Jill.
