Easter In Chartres (Remembered)

Christ is Risen! Resurrection is possible!

Lighting of the Paschal Fire

Yet how strange to “celebrate” Easter far from our faith communities.

How sad to worship alone

Gratefully, we carry within us the memories of past Easters when we sang of Christ’s resurrection together.

Thankfully, Christ’s rising reminds us of the hope we hold in our hearts.

Scriptural Touchstone

As Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.  But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.  Mark 16:5-6 NRSV

My prayer

God, it is snowing outside my window! My heart is weary from Sheltering in Place and this month of confinement. I fear for the future of all the vulnerable on our planet.

Yet my mind repeats the familiar words, Christ is Risen! Christ is risen indeed.” That is the only prayer I can muster this morning. Please accept my poor praise as an offering of faith.

Invitation to prayer

How is your heart this Easter morning? Please share it freely with the wounded and Risen Christ.

Once a year, after the Easter Vigil, the Bishop of Chartres invites the youth to celebrate Christ’s resurrection by dancing around the central altar.

  • I have so many wonderful memories of worship in Chartres Cathedral–times alone and times with others. The cathedral is a unique place of inspiration, faith, and testimony. I feel grateful for Chartres, this morning, and even more that the risen Christ is with me here in Minnesota and simultaneously in the heart of every believer throughout the world. That’s the hope that is sustaining me most on this Easter Sunday morning.
